It is the small details that make your home enjoyable. Nothing is worse than trying to find an outlet to plug in an electrical item.

A convenience outlet is usually a single outlet strategically placed to allow the homeowner to plug in an electrical product.

Kitchen

A convenience outlet in the kitchen is handy when preparing meals. An outlet can be located on the wall above the countertop for access to plug in a mixer, blender, or bread maker. Some convenience outlets are located on the wall next to a bar. Another great place for a convenience outlet is on the side of a kitchen island for easy access.

Bathrooms

A convenience outlet in the bathroom above the counter is handy to have. These outlets can be used to recharge a toothbrush, plug in a shaver, or to plug in a hairdryer.

Convenience outlets in the bathroom can also be mounted under the cabinet, so they are hidden from view.

Floors

Many builders like to include a convenience outlet in the floor of large rooms. This allows for homeowners to not have to place furniture against the wall. The furniture can be moved in some places, and a socket in the floor can be used to plug in a floor lamp.

New Homes

When designing a new home, make sure you consider all the places where it would be convenient to have an outlet that is not standard. Convenience outlets eliminate the need to plug the device into an extension cord which could be a hazard. Extension cords can be tripped over and can overheat and catch on fire.

Finally, consider adding a convenience outlet in a home office, garage, and outside storage areas. If the home has a place for a television to mount on the wall, consider a convenience outlet in that area where the cords do not dangle down.
