Getting your Ontario Drivers License can prove to be a daunting task. When you are looking at booking your road test to get your Ontario drivers license it is best to understand the entire process so you are not out of pocket for fees.
Understanding Fees
Getting your Ontario drivers license involves a graduated process. However in order to work towards your license you actually pay in advance for your road test. Therefore it is important to be certain you are seriously ready to get your license before you take your written test or you could be out of pocket for your fees. The good news is that you have six years to actually take your road test. You have 48 hours to cancel a scheduled road test. With proper notice you will not lose your prepaid fees. If you do give sufficient notice your fees remain in place to cover your next scheduled road test.
Refund Conditions
There are some conditions under which you will not lose your prepaid fees. These would be conditions over which you have no control. You will be able to reschedule your road test the same day if the following occurs:
1. If the weather is hazardous you will not be expected to take your test. This would include snow storms, freezing rain or ice storms. In this situation you have three days to reschedule your test so you do not lose your prepaid fees. You will also have to provide proof of the weather conditions that prevented you from attending such as a newspaper article when you reschedule.
2. If you experience a death in your immediate family (this would be a mother, father, brother, sister, child or spouse) you can provide notice of cancellation and be allowed to reschedule. Proof will be required in form of a death certificate.
3. If you or an immediate family member are sick or injured you can reschedule and will require proof in the form of a doctor’s note.
4. If you have been called to jury duty you can reschedule with proof in the form of your letter.
5. If you were in prison you can also show proof of this in order to reschedule.
6. Verified work schedule changes that are unavoidable are also acceptable.
As you can see it is a good idea to ensure you are prepared to schedule your road test when there is less chance of difficulty so you are not at risk of losing your prepaid fee.
