The St. Kitts and Nevis Islands are the perfect locations for a wedding and honeymoon. There are many options to consider, including historic churches, historical parks, exotic plantations, tropical gardens and beautiful beaches. Your honeymoon will be perfect, as well, with the beautiful resorts and hotels available. While weddings in St. Kitts can be extremely easy, there are a few legal matters that you will need to know before making your decision.

Documents Required

Because it is in the Caribbean, you will need to have photo identification or a valid passport to get married. You will also need to have a certified copy or original birth certificate, an affidavit stating that both of you have never been married before, or a decree absolute if you are divorced. For those who are widowed, you must have a copy of the deceased?s death certificate.

For those of non-English speaking tongues, you will need a notarized translation of all documents.

Those younger than 18 can marry in Nevis, but parent?s permission is required through a notarized letter.

Timing

When considering the time or day of the wedding, you should remember that it will be dependent on who presides over the ceremony. A religious person presiding means that the marriage can take place anytime between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. If a Magistrate will be performing the services, timing is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

More Requirements

In most cases, there will be additional requirements to get married in Nevis, which include the ceremony.

If the wedding is performed by Catholic priests, it is a requirement that you and your future spouse receive counseling sessions from your parish priest before getting married. You will need to submit specific documents that show this. You will also need a letter from your resident priest that says you are unmarried, and you have received and followed the necessary rules. Because of the Catholic way, you must be married in a church.

For those that want weddings performed by a Minister of Religion or Anglican, your resident minister will need to send a letter proving that you are unmarried and know each other.

While there is no waiting period to get married in St. Kitts, the license cost can be lowered if you can be in the town for at least 15 days. Otherwise, it can cost four times as much.
