The Chrysler Prowler
This retro-styled roadster was sold from 1997 to 2002. A convertible, it was constructed to resemble earlier roadsters. It was also designed to be as lightweight as possible.
The use of aluminum in the chassis, body and engine ensured the vehicle was extremely light. Other unique qualities that made the car stand out from other vehicles at the time included:
- Front fenders were attached to the front spindles
- Rear-mounted 4-speed automatic transmission
- Integrated headlights
- Independent rear suspension
A Chrysler dealer would have stressed that not only did the car weigh only 2,780 pounds, but that it also would accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in 5.9 seconds. It had a top speed of 126 MPH.
The Chrysler Prowler
Although the Prowler was only available for a short time and never gained the hoped-for popularity, it remains a unique vehicle. It is a fun car to own. It is fast and driver-friendly.
