If you have crooked teeth or you have an overbite or under bite you may want to know the differences between metal braces and Invisalign aligners.  You will want to know which of the two is most effective, the cost differences, etc but the real objective is to choose the best approach to ensure success.

Traditional metal braces vs. Invisalign:

Braces and Invisalign in Chicago both perform the same function; they are used to straighten teeth to improve one’s appearance and help solve oral health issues.

* Braces: Braces use metal brackets that are glued to the front surfaces of your teeth, the brackets are tied together using a metal wire and very small rubber bands. Although the majority of brackets are stainless steel, they are also available in materials that make them more discrete.

* Invisalign: Invisalign does not employ any brackets, wires or rubber bands. Invisalign are invisible aligners that fit over your teeth, somewhat like a mouth guard that is used when playing sports. These “trays” are very smooth and comfortable to wear. A series of aligners is made using hi-tech digital imaging, a different aligner is used every couple of weeks.

Invisalign in Chicago is not the preferred method to deal with extremely complex cases, Invisalign is however the ideal solution for the greatest majority of cases which are not overly complicated. The aligners are deigned to wear day and night, every two weeks they are changed to the next one in the series. Every aligner exerts pressure on designated teeth, slowly moving them into the desired position; in most cases the treatment time is between 12 and 18 months.

Invisalign can be removed for up to two hours a day, this makes it far easier to clean and floss and you can eat anything you like; this is certainly not the case when you wear braces.

If you have crooked or misaligned teeth you may wish to consider straightening them with Invisalign invisible aligners. For Invisalign in Chicago you are invited to make an appointment with Dental Professionals of Lincoln Park.
