An important part of maintaining any commercial or industrial facility is having the right kind of heating system. The method of heating depends on the kind, and size, of the space. It’s critical to have the right system for cost and safety purposes.

A Flexible Design
One of the most common ways to heat a large commercial space is through the use of a direct fired heater. These heaters utilize a rather simple design; a burner creates hot gas that transfers its heat energy to another gas or liquid which then passes through and heats a set of coils inside the heater vessel. Such a design lends itself to great flexibility and allows direct fired heaters to be custom built for specific settings.

Direct fired heaters are a popular heating choice for multiple reasons. First and foremost is safety. DFHs often have redundant safety features such as flame control, high-limit temperature shutoff, and dual safety-shutoff valves. Such features result in less required supervision compared to other heaters.

Cost Effective and Powerful
Efficiency is a second important reason. DFHs convert 100% of their fuel into heat which results in lower fuel and operating costs. They are also extremely powerful with the capability to deliver over 200,000 BTU’s. Their design is also conducive for increasing the air circulation in a building through pressurization, as DFHs are capable of projecting air over 200 feet and often have a cfm of over 12,000. Furthermore, there are other benefits that come with using a direct fired heater including: the ability to burn natural gas or vapor, not needing any venting or flue piping, and a good heat-to-air volume value.

Direct fired heaters can be used in a variety of settings. They are ideal for commercial facilities with many docks and loading bays, such as warehouses and distribution centers. Additionally, DFHs are also optimum for factories as they are great source of makeup air, which also makes them suitable for kitchens that need lots of replacement air for exhaust hoods.

The direct fired heater is a versatile and efficient heating unit that works well for a variety of commercial and industrial settings. It requires little maintenance and supervision and it’s cost effectiveness saves companies time and money.
