When you have a terrazzo floor, you want it to have that beautiful and lustrous shine that it’s known for. Of course, over time, the floor is going to dull, so you need to make sure that you are cleaning and maintaining the floor properly, and that includes polishing. Fortunately, proper polishing is not difficult to do, and it will quickly help to bring that dull floor back to shiny life very quickly.

  • Sweep
  • Mop
  • Dry
  • Add Polishing Powder and Buff

Sweep

The first thing that you need to do before you can polish the floor is swept it to remove the debris, dust, and dirt that may have accumulated. Ideally, you will be doing regular sweeping of the floor as part of your routine maintenance, so you should not have to do much at this stage. Just make sure there is nothing on the floor before you start mopping.

Mop

Use a quality cleaner for terrazzo floors and remove any of the stubborn soil that might be on the floor. If the floor is in an area that receives quite a bit of traffic, this could be a substantial amount, even though it might not look very dirty. You will want to mop until you can rinse out the mop and the water looks fairly clean. Always follow the directions on your cleaner.

Dry

Once you are sure that you have removed all of the dirt and debris, you will allow the floor to dry before you start your terrazzo floor polishing. Depending on the size and location of the floor, the drying time can differ quite a bit. During this time, you will not want to walk on the floor either.

Add Polishing Powder and Buff

Next, you will add a high-quality polishing powder to your floor, following the manufacturer’s directions, and then use the mechanical buffer. This will create a paste, which you continue to work on the flooring until it is nice and shiny. Finally, you will go through and remove any of the excess powder.
