It is not necessary that you change jeep door handles only if they break or become rusty. When it comes to Jeep, especially Wrangler, all we know is to style it up, wear a cowboy hat and cruise on the road the Hollywood way. Replacing your jeep door parts, especially the handles, can be a little tricky without the right information at hand. Here is a quick guide to replace jeep door handles like a pro.

Difficulty and Time

A professional will change the jeep door handles within 10 minutes, smoothly and swiftly. You can also change it easily within 10 minutes following our procedure.

Step 01 ? Removal

Start by removing the inner door panel. If there is a vapor barrier in your jeep then remove it as well. Keep the windows rolled up so that you can access the door from both sides. We suggest keeping the door closed as it is easy to handle this way.

Jeep doors have small rods that connect the lock mechanism. With the help of a pair of pliers, remove the small clip that keeps the rods in place. We have to install the clip later on, so keep it safe.

Now safely locate the two keeper pins which are used on either side of the handles. You can remove the keeper pins with the help of a flat head screw driver. These pins will also be installed later on, so keep them safe as well.

Finally, pull off the latch release rod of handle and remove the handle from door.

Step 02 ? Installation

Most often, reverse removal technique is used to install items but you have to be a little tricky with jeep door parts, especially the handle. Firstly, install the latch release rod and then install the small spring clip which you had removed in the first step.

The next step is to install the gasket. It needs a little extra care because gaskets, which are not placed in line, allow air and water to pass through the door, causing it to rust. Now install the new handle.

While keeping the handle in place, slide the keeper pins into it from the top of assembly. Now use a screwdriver to tap the keeper pins 2 to 3 steps down. If you don?t bring the keeper pins down, the loose door handle will soon fall easily.

In the final step, install the lock knob tightly, and re-place the door panel and vapor barrier.

Jeeps are one of the toughest vehicles on the road; however, replacing jeep door parts is definitely not a difficult bet if you follow the procedures correctly.
