Nobody likes having to constantly be shaving, waxing or otherwise removing hair, as it can be a time consuming and sometimes painful task. What’s Involved
During the process, a wand is moved over the area that beams a laser into the follicles of the hairs. The light gets absorbed by the pigment, a process which then destroys the hairs. Each treatment can take anywhere from a minute, for a small area like that over the upper lip, or as much as an hour, for larger areas like the legs and the back. In order to get the best results, you’ll need to avoid waxing or plucking out any hairs for about six weeks before starting a Hair Reduction Treatment using lasers. It’s still fine to shave during this time, as this still leaves the roots intact and able to be targetted by the laser. Stay out of the sun as well, as having a greater contrast between skin color and hair color makes it easier for the laser to distinguish the hair to be removed. Repeat treatments are needed every four to six weeks until the hair no longer grows.
Potential Side Effects
The treatment stings and is thus a bit painful, so be prepared for this. Once the treatment is completed, the skin is often reddish and a bit sore, like when you get a sunburn. Rarely, blisters and swelling can occur or even permanent scarring. People with darker skin or less of a contrast between their hair and skin color may be more likely to experience side effects than those with light skin and dark hair.
Results
With this type of treatment, you can expect a permanent reduction in the amount of hair that grows in the treated area. However, you can’t expect all the hair to be permanently removed. It often takes between six and eight treatments before hair is mostly removed, and eventually, some of this hair will grow back. This means regular follow-up treatments may be necessary.
