Unlike many attorneys, Social Security disability attorneys work on a contingency fee basis; they do not charge anything to take your case; they get their fee paid upon the successful conclusion of the case. If they fail to get you benefits, they are not paid.

The Agreement

Once you have discussed your case with knowledgeable attorneys in Missouri and they accept you as a client, you and the attorneys will enter into a fee agreement. The Social Security Administration reviews the agreement to ensure it meets the guidelines. Your attorneys are paid directly from your past-due benefits once you are granted an award.

How Much Is the Attorney Paid?

It is easy to determine the legal fee that your lawyer will charge upon the successful conclusion of your case. By law, Social Security disability attorneys can only charge 25 percent of the back pay you are granted, up to a maximum of $6,000. The attorney’s fee is paid from your past-due benefits only; if none is awarded, the attorney is not paid.

The legal fee is usually paid directly to your attorneys; however, you may be asked to pay a small amount at the commencement of the case for incidentals such as photocopies, etc.

What Back Pay Can You Expect?

The SSA will calculate the amount of back pay they owe you. If you are awarded SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) benefits, the amount you are owed is backdated to when the administration determined was the onset date of your disability, up to 12 months.

If you are awarded SSI (Supplementary Security Income) benefits, the amount you receive is calculated from the date of approval of your claim to the month after your initial claim was made.

When you consider the benefits of hiring Social Security disability attorneys, the cost is very reasonable.
