Using energy – efficient LED luminaires and bulbs provides tremendous benefits for the environment, people and businesses. They use 70-90% less energy, last as long as 22 years or 25,000 hours, eliminate mercury contamination of the environment, and can ultimately improve a company?s bottom line.
The cost of replacing lighting with LED lighting can be insignificant when comparing maintenance efforts in hard-to-reach places like high-bay environments, livestock buildings and outdoor luminaires. Commercial LED lights require fewer replacement lamps and ballasts meaning lower supply and labor costs. Other savings to offset replacement costs may be obtained through federal, state, and municipal tax relief for commercial and industrial companies implementing “green” technology. Many utility companies offer rebates for upgrading lighting systems, based on specific retrofit requirements.
The Department of Energy predicts that the conversion to LED Luminaires has the potential to reduce energy use by one-third by 2030. The difference in energy use by LED and fluorescent lighting is the equivalent of saving the output of 40 1,000-megawatt power plants, the greenhouse gas emissions of 47 million cars and $30 billion. According to ENERGY STAR, one LED lamp can save $80 in electricity costs over the lifetime of the product. LED luminaires also operate at a much cooler temperature, resulting in less energy required for air conditioning, reduced unwanted chemicals and pollutants, and a more comfortable environment for less money.
