If you are a frequent traveler in your RV, you know how frustrating it can be when you find the perfect campground or RV park, only to find out there is an issue with being able to dump your black water tank.

Sometimes, to dump that black water tank, you may have to spend a lot of time, and deal with a lot of hassle and stress. To avoid all of this you can simply have a portable sewer tank, allowing you to easily move the black water, and even the gray water, as needed.

The Design

The design of any good portable sewer tank is a low profile type of tank that has two or four wheels, depending on the capacity of the tank. The larger tanks usually have four wheels, but the smaller tanks may simply roll along on two wheels at the back, similar to how you roll luggage.

Look for a tank that has a durable and strong handle to allow you to easily move the tank over rougher terrain, grass, gravel or stone. If it will be easy to use on rougher areas, it will be a snap to move over smooth surfaces and paved areas. Also, the handle should swivel to allow easy navigation when backing the tank up to dump the contents.

Cleaning will also be important, so the tank should come equipped with a threaded connector or adapter that allows you to connect a common garden hose, and flush out the tank right at the dump location. Some tanks offer bobber types of gauges that will signal when the tank is full. This can really help to prevent over-filling the tank.

The Benefits

Many of the campgrounds don’t offer sewer hookups for each unit. Having the portable sewer tank on hand makes dealing with this very easy, without having to actually leave the space and move the RV.

Depending on how long you are going to stay in one location, and how many people will be using the RV; this can be a very important piece of equipment to have on hand.

The size of the portable sewer tank you select will largely depend on the factors mentioned above. If you have a larger tank, and they can go up to 42 gallons and still move very easily across the ground, you will make fewer trips to the dump station, giving you more time to just sit back, and enjoy the great outdoors.
