A mom is 75 years old now and somewhat disabled from a stroke and a chronic autoimmune disorder. She has admitted she needs some help, but not at the level of assisted living. She and her two adult children sit down at the kitchen table to figure out the best option. One would be to have a home care agency in Philadelphia PA & another would be to move to an independent living community that provides senior companion care.

A Midground Option
This option is somewhat of a midground between assisted and independent living. Instead of continuing to live alone at home, which can eventually become somewhat hazardous for a disabled person, moving to a senior community is a welcome possibility. The idea of hiring a home care agency in Philadelphia PA may be appealing, if the elderly person is accompanied most of the time.

What She Wants Now
This particular senior lady does not want to move in with her adult children and doesn’t want them hovering around all the time. They have their own families and jobs too. She likes the idea of having an apartment and letting go of all the housework required with the two-bedroom condo she bought 10 years ago. Moving to an apartment community in which she can get some help with housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation will give her more free time. At this point in her life, she’d like to focus on some hobbies and may even take some online courses.

A Broad Spectrum
Care for seniors and disabled individuals can be considered as a broad spectrum with some overlaps. On one side are nursing homes and dementia care. At the other side of the scale is the retirement community, which may be referred to as active or independent senior living or senior apartments. In the middle are the options for personal home care and assisted living.
