Liposuction
is a surgical procedure used in body contouring. While it does
involve removing fat, it is not a weight-loss procedure. It is,
instead, for patients who have successfully reached or maintained a
healthy weight but still have fat deposits in certain areas.
Liposuction can be done practically anywhere on the body, and it can
be done on its own or as part of another procedure like breast

What happens during
liposuction?
Liposuction has been around for decades, and
different techniques have developed. Traditional liposuction

hollow tube called a cannula that is used to break up the fat cells.
The cannula is also attached to a suction device that will vacuum out
the fat. The surgeon will administer anesthesia and then make
incisions above the targeted fat and insert the cannula into an

“water-assisted.” That means that the cannula delivers pulses of
liquid that gently dislodge the fat cells for easier removal.
Body-Jet requires less medication than does traditional liposuction.
The medications administered during liposuction reduce blood loss and
keep the patient comfortable.
Who is a good candidate
for liposuction?
The ideal candidate will be somebody who
is in overall good health and has realistic expectations. As already
mentioned, liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. The patient
should thus be within 30 percent of their ideal weight.
The
patient should also be a non-smoker, for smoking increases the risk
of bleeding and other complications. A patient who smokes should quit
at least several weeks before the procedure. Herbal supplements and
anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin also increase bleeding. If you

beforehand.
