Everyone who is involved with boxing, even a rank beginner must first have some essential, and relatively inexpensive, title boxing gear. Having the right gear is critical both from a safety point of view and comfort. As boxing is a demanding physical sport, even before you consider taking it up it is highly recommended that you get your doctors approval that you can comfortably become involved.

Let’s have a look at some of the basic title boxing gear that you will need before you start:

Hand wraps:

Needless to say the hands take considerable abuse and they must be well protected to avoid hand injuries. Properly wrapped hands are one of the keys and for the first couple of times you will want an expert at the gym to show you the proper wrapping procedure. When wrapping the hands it is important to remember that the fingers must remain separated which gives them room to move, the wrap must not be overly tight and the padding over the knuckles must not have any creases, in the knuckle area make sure the wrapping is smooth and evenly spread.

Boxing gloves:

Your boxing gloves should be just snug; they should not be too loose or too tight. The laces should not be too tight and the extra lace is to be wrapped around the top of the glove at the wrist. When you first buy your gloves there will be lace tips made from plastic or metal, these must be cut off immediately.

Mouthguard:

A mouthguard is of paramount importance; do not settle for anything but the best. The mouthpiece should be of the boil and bite variety or one produced by a dentist; it must fit the mouth and teeth well.

Shoes:

For the sport, a good pair of boxing shoes is far superior to any kind of sneaker. Boxing shoes are extremely light; they have leather soles and are high which provides support for the ankles. It is more tiring and difficult to move with sneakers, you will tire quickly and put yourself at unnecessary risk of ankle injury.

Headgear:

Proper fitting head gear will reduce the risks of cuts and injury to the eye as well as absorb some of the force from blows. Select this piece of title boxing gear so that it is snug enough that it does not move around and obstruct your vision.
