There are five common roofing problems that could require construction if not caught quickly. While you want to ensure your roof stays intact and provides safety for your family and possessions, you may start to notice certain things that may either require a little TLC or need to be fixed, so they don’t create even bigger construction problems in your Norman home.

Fascia

Every roof has a fascia, which is the band that runs horizontally under the roof edge and is placed vertically along the edge. It is technically the front board of the trim along your roof and is usually made from sheet metal or wood. The fascia protects the roof’s edge and keeps water and animals out of the home. While it does a lot to protect the roof, it can also add a pleasing look and style. If you notice that there is damage or rotting wood, consult with a roofing contractor because moisture could have gotten into the wood and may need to be replaced or repaired.

Soffit

The soffit is a finished roof eave below the rafters and fascia. Yours is probably made from vinyl as it is resistant to water and is a very cost-saving material. However, it could form holes or cracks and may allow insects and water to penetrate into the home. This type of construction job could be difficult or easy to fix, depending on how bad the cracks have become.

Flashings

Flashings are used to seal the perimeters, edges, walls, valleys, drains and other roof areas. Whenever a roof is placed, it could cause odd areas that aren’t fully protected, so a flashing is used. Weather can damage the aluminum or steel over time, causing rot, damage or missing flashings. This roofing problem can easily be fixed, unless there are underlying problems from moisture.

Gutters

Gutters are your Norman home’s best friend. When it rains, the gutters are there to catch the water falling from the rain and roof and move it safely to an area beside the home. If the gutters become clogged or cracked, the water cannot move to its safe drainage place and may drain anywhere along the gutter line. This causes problems to the outside walls and even the foundation, so make sure the gutters are clean and in good repair.

Shingles

Shingles are the perfect defense for your roof, but if they are curled, missing or broken, the roof could start leaking and damage could be high. Get your shingles replaced or repaired as soon as possible. For more information.
