It’s time to go out of town and you need to leave your furry friend at a boarding facility. If your dog hasn’t been in this environment, there are a few tips to keep in mind so that it’s a good experience for your pet and for you as it can be difficult being separated from your pet for even a few days. A dog boarding NYC facility will usually want your pet to be vaccinated before staying. You usually need to have the vaccinations completed at least 10 days before the day your dog arrives. There are usually certain vaccines that your dog needs to have, such as rabies and bordetella. Other vaccines are beneficial but might not be required for the stay. You also need to find out if your pet needs to be spayed or neutered in order to stay at the facility.

Make sure you complete all of the paperwork that you’re given. Let the dog boarding NYC facility know of an emergency contact and multiple ways that you can be reached when you’re out of town in the event of an emergency. Most facilities welcome phone calls and emails during the day so that you can check on your pet. Let the workers know if there are any mannerisms that your dog has that they might need to look for and things that could be of concern while staying at the facility.

Take a few items from your home so that your dog is comfortable. These items could be blankets, a pillow, a toy, or a stuffed animal. Depending on the room, some facilities will allow you to provide a bed as well. Take the food that your pet is used to eating so that the diet is interrupted. Let the workers know how much food you give each day as well.
