Until about 10 years ago, the major seller for the beverage industry was the soft drink. They ensured ongoing profits. Today, however, many companies are coming to realize that the market is changing. Young Americans seem to be “hot” on caffeinated drinks. Adults are focusing on healthier beverages. Yet, one factor remains the same – carbonation. People like fizzy drinks and the carbonation system most companies have is able to adapt easily and efficiently to the new demands.
The Role of Carbonation
Carbonation is responsible for the fizz in a drink. The process is common among beer and alcohol producers. The most popular use to date has been in soft drinks. Beverage companies use carbonation to enliven these drinks and give them that certain mouth feel. While soft drinks are in decline, they still provide a certain percentage of the market.
Carbonation is also finding a role in the alternative drinks markets. With adults increasingly becoming health conscious, beverage companies are producing a variety of different, healthier drinks. They are abandoning their focus on soda syrup and switching to a variety of fruit juices and flavored waters. The drinks may be something mundane as passion fruit or as exotic as hibiscus or lavender.
Interestingly enough, adults and youth, while abandoning sodas are not rejecting carbonation. They want carbonated water and bubbly juices. As a result, a company’s carbonation system remains the backbone of their production system.
The Carbonation System and the New Beverage Trends
Americans are trying out new beverages. They are stretching their taste buds to embrace healthier and different types of drinks. Sodas are no longer the flavor of the decade. However, this does not mean they are leaving behind carbonated beverages. It simply means Americans are experimenting with different types of carbonated drinks. To survive in this changing market does not mean tossing out your carbonation system; it means adapting the equipment and the mind-set to meet the current trends.
