There are many reasons women choose to become a Surrogate Mother in California. For some, they love the experience of pregnancy but have no desire to raise another child. For others, their own happiness as a mother encourages them to help another couple live their dream as well.
Women who are debating whether or not to become a surrogate often have a lot of questions. These questions are about if it is right for them and their families and about what the process itself is like. This information should help make the choice a little easier.
Applying
Age restrictions, background checks and a medical screening are required through every agency, so qualifying will be the first step. You will be expected to meet with a counselor who will remained involved throughout the process. Each company offers different methods of meeting prospective parents. Some will match you up, others allow the surrogate to choose the couple and others allow the couple to choose the surrogate.
Fertilization
After a match is made and a contract signed, Artificial Insemination or Invitro Fertilization will occur. Obviously every attempt is made to track ovulation carefully so the procedure is successful on the first attempt, but multiple attempts may be needed.
Pregnancy
Once pregnant you will see the obstetrician of your choice. You will hear from your couple frequently throughout this time as they anxiously await the birth of their child. As with any parents-to-be, they will want all of the details, so it is important to record every movement, hiccup and doctor appointment for them.
Birth
Many couples will want to be present at the birth. Some women may have an issue with this for modesty reasons and it should be discussed at the time of the contract, not at the moment the water breaks. The parents will take the child once it is released from the hospital and you will begin your way back to your regular life, knowing you helped a couple realize a dream.
