Simply put, dental diamond burs are designed for precise drilling and finishing. These differ from many other bur materials used in that they are deployed when material removal is an afterthought. While carbide burs are often preferred, diamond burs can create a cleaner cut and ultimately a much higher finish.
Determining the Polish Speed
While the mechanical speed is something to take into account, the diamond bur’s grit will also help to determine the speed as well as the ultimate type of polish:

Coarse Grit – Heavy Material Removal
Apart from the grit, there are two significant types of diamond burs, the first being standard, and the second being disposable. Standard burs can be reused and as such must be sharpened before each use. Disposables are only for single use.
What Are the Advantages of Diamond Burs?
Diamond burs have a lot of significant advantages, but primarily they are much smoother and much faster than many of the other options on the market. Diamond burs that have a finer grit are better at polish, and most importantly they will last much longer than the human-made ones. These are a great choice, if a bit more expensive.
