OEM printer ink is not cheap. In fact, it can be cheaper to buy a new printer rather than buy ink for your old one. This is actually by design, however, since the makers sell the printers for very little or no profit, then make money off of the ink. There is an alternative; however, cheap printer ink cartridges are not what they used to be. Here are some things you need to know about cheap ink.

It Lasts Longer

Yes, contrary to what you may think cheap ink cartridges tend to last much longer than their OEM counterparts. This has repeatedly been shown in multiple tests, but should not be considered a rule. While most cheap ink cartridges do outlast OEM ink, this will vary by the manufacturer.

Picture Quality

When it comes to the quality of the print, cheap ink does take a backseat to OEM ink. OEM ink will usually provide a crisper, more vibrant image than cheap ink. If you are printing photos or something that needs to be perfect such as a business flyer or something for school, then OEM ink is the better option. If, however, you are just printing out a text document or something that the quality does not matter as much, which is the majority of what most people print, then the cheap ink will potentially save you a lot of money on printing.

Will It Damage My Printer?

Printer OEMs, and OEMs in general, have a bad habit of spreading misinformation that non-OEM consumables will damage their product. No, using cheap ink will not damage your printer, but you do have to make sure that it will work in your printer. In an effort to stop from losing sales, some OEMs are putting a DRM in place to prevent yours from being able to use any ink other than theirs. This reads the ink, and if it is not an approved type, then it will not work at all.

When it comes to cheap ink, it is not going to damage your printer and can potentially save you a lot of money on printing.
