Recycling in the north east has become a new buzz word in the twenty-first century. Because of the influx of complaints about the planet and its ecology we have become far more conscious of the way we behave toward it. In previous years, before sanitation, before sewers and before we had indoor plumbing, our waste disposal comprised of tossing buckets of swill out of the top window and landing it in piles in the streets. Left over products and food from markets were simply left lying around to fester and our health suffered as a consequence. Since we developed more modern ways of being hygienic we have ended up generating for more garbage as a society and landfill sites are straining to contain much of what we throw away. Here are five reasons why we should recycle.

Reason One: Materials used in the production of items such as water bottles, tin cans and paper can all be recycled and therefore do not get thrown into landfills. Paper and such products can be reborn in a sort of reincarnation for materials. They get to be a new tin can or a new newspaper and therefore saving energy and producing less carbon dioxide.

Reason Two: Chemicals and hazardous materials should always be disposed of correctly. They pollute the atmosphere and can contaminate water and public areas. Any material that is deemed as hazardous or potentially dangerous should always be disposed of sensibly and carefully.

Reason Three: Every man-made product that requires a raw material takes something away from the earth. In the construction of wooden buildings trees are felled and not always replaced. In order to protect and conserve the ecology of the planet we need to make sure that trees are only felled when necessary and replaced with twice that amount to compensate.

Reason Four: Landfills cause a burden on local areas. They smell bad and they are bursting at the seams with hundreds of years of our waste products. The more products we can recycle the less strain there will be on the landfill sites. If the UK can get our recycling percentage to at least 80% as a country there will be more bio-degradable products going into compost heaps instead of landfills and our plastics and paper can all be recycled into new products, leaving a lower carbon footprint.

Reason Five: General atmospheric pollution has been seriously reduced by new international laws regarding clean air. The UK has low pollution driving zones but still the skies are polluted every day by the hundreds of aircraft that fly the skies. Atmospheric pollution can also be reduced by recycling in the north east, because those products will not be incinerated, rather, recycled and used again as other products made from the same materials.
