Going on a retreat can be a momentous decision for you. It can give you the time you need to think things over, make plans and give you the courage to take the first step in changing your life. If you’re going on your first ever meditation practice retreat, here are a few tips to help you out.
Pack your gear
You’ll need to put together a meditation gear, the HuffPost says. If you don’t have one yet, it’s easy. Start by finding a cushion or pillow you love. There’s nothing like being stuck in a chair and staying there for hours without a cushion or pillow. You’ll be so much more comfortable with a well-placed cushion.
Take it one hour at a time
If you can’t accept the thought of spending six-plus hours in meditation, just sitting or walking, doing meditation, then think of it in smaller chunks of time. Start with one hour. You can do it for one hour. After that, do another hour. Then another. That’s going to help you survive your first retreat.
Take care of your body
When you go on a meditation practice retreat, one of the first things you’ll learn is the importance of taking care of your body. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time sitting, then start your day with exercises. Put in stretching times into your meditation schedule throughout the day. That’s going to help ease any stress and strain.
Boost your energy
Find ways to boost your energy and attention during the meditation. Will taking a bath after dinner help you? If you’re feeling refreshed, that could give you enough energy for your evening sessions. Having healthy snacks can also help you regain enough of your energy, especially after a mentally exhausting meditation.
